The Person Whose Dog Is Part of Every Conversation

You know the person. You ask how the week went and you hear about the vet, the new harness, and the fact that the dachshund has decided stairs are optional. You came for the weekend plans. You stay for the dog.

Buying for this person is easier than it looks, and harder to do well. The default gift is a mug with a paw print, and it is perfectly nice, and it will live in a cabinet. What a dog person really appreciates is evidence that you noticed. That the dog is not a hobby but a member of the household, and that you were paying attention.

What noticing looks like

It looks like a small thing chosen with care. A box of chocolates, for one, because almost everyone eats chocolate and almost no one buys it for themselves in quite this way: hand-painted, in a box that looks like a present. Add something that tells them the gift was meant for them, and not for just anyone on your list.

For us that something is a sleeve of dachshunds and French bulldogs in knitted sweaters, drawn with more affection than a sweater strictly deserves. It wraps a clear box of bonbons, crafted from premium Belgian couverture, and the whole thing is tied with a gold ribbon. It does not say "dog lover" in large letters. It just shows up looking like someone knew.

Who it suits

A birthday for a friend who sends you photos of the dog at least twice a week. A thank-you to the neighbor who watched yours over a long weekend. A hostess gift for the dinner where the host's dog will, at some point, sit beside you at the table. A holiday gift, for a Christmas or Hanukkah exchange, for a colleague who has never once mentioned a hobby that wasn't a dog. If the dog is in the holiday card, the dog should be in the gift.

The card

A gift reads differently with a few words inside. Our dog lover box has a matching dog mom and dog dad card, with a dachshund and a French bulldog, and you can have your message written inside it. If we are sending the gift to someone other than you, we put the card in with the box. Say what you'd say in person: Happy birthday. Give Biscuit a scratch from me.

If you are shopping for a few people at once, the Gifts page lets you choose a box, add a card with your message, and a gift bag in three steps. Every order is confirmed personally within 24 hours.
